The United States offers a wide range of travel destinations to suit just about anyone's tastes. From the warm tranquil waters of Florida, to the Colorado Rocky Mountains, the United States offers almost any kind of travel destination you are seeking. This article will give you some ideas as to what the United States has to offer, when considering your next travel destination.

Don't rely on ribbons and bows to make your luggage stand out from the rest of the pack. These adornments can very easily be torn off in transit. Instead, opt for luggage in a bright, unusual color or vivid pattern that stands out on its own and can't be removed.

Convert your money a few days before your scheduled departure. Also, confirm with your bank or credit card holder that your cards can be used when you're traveling to a foreign country. It's also helpful to let them know that you will be traveling so they won't "deny" a foreign transaction. Have some traveler checks on hand that can be used internationally as well.

Making a friend of the concierge will make your stay at any hotel a much safer and smarter experience. This person should be greeted and tipped like your life depends on it. The concierge has a wealth of information on where to eat, play, relax, shop, and can also; get you out of any bind you might find yourself in while far from home.

If you are traveling and shopping duty free, exercise some caution. Something might seem like a great deal in the duty free shop, when in reality it is not. Do a little advance planning for duty free items, and have an idea of what they cost in regular retail stores. This type of planning can save you money.

Avoid taking ignorant risks, by thinking that it is okay to speed when on a road trip. It's not fun to get pulled over, arrested or to have to cancel or severely stall your trip, in order to pay a speeding ticket. Your trip is supposed to be fun, but you're not above the laws of the road, especially when they can endanger the lives of other people.

When traveling, internet access is one the things that we look for. One of the things that you should remember is that certain coffee shops like Starbucks and public libraries usually have free wireless internet. Why pay for expensive internet from the hotel when you can get it for free?

To have a less stressful trip and over all more enjoyable travel, it is important to plan ahead. By planning ahead, one can reduce their chances of forgetting something that is needed. Also, if something comes up, there is enough time to handle it as opposed to having to rush at the last minute.

If you will be driving when you travel to another country, take the time to contact your insurance carrier. They can give you any needed documentation that pertains to your insurance coverage, any additional insurance you may need and much needed advice or information about regulations for driving at your destination.

When packing for a baby or a toddler, think about what things you could possibly pick up when you get there. Diapers and wipes take up a lot of space, especially if you will be gone for a week or more. This will leave you more room, and you will need less time to pack.

When you decide to travel your expectation will be enjoyment. If you keep in mind the tips and advice in this article then you will have a chance at making the most out of your next trip. What matters is that you get as close as you can to what you were anticipating and feel totally fulfilled after you return.

How To: A Career In Photography ? Shae DeTar

?First off, ?we need to remind ourselves to "lock into a long term mindset", and remember that success does not happen overnight. ?John C. Maxwell ( Wrote Self Improvement 101 ) said, "The best way to ensure success is to start growing today. No matter where you may be starting from, don't be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was". ?It takes time to arrive at your destination.? ?So many of us have grown up in this fast paced, technology spoiled generation. ?We expect things to happen instantaneously, and get bummed out and confused when things aren't occurring at light-speed. ?But let me paint a little picture for you with excerpts from a biography of Jane Austen ( 'A Life' ). ?Jane Austen, one of the most celebrated authors of all time wrote her first draft of?Pride And Prejudice?when she was just 20 years old. ?"By the time it was published in 1813 she was thirty-seven years old?( 17 years after her first draft ). ?Sense And Sensibility?took 16 years from draft to publication". ?That's pretty remarkable and I'm probably right in assuming that this would be hard for many of us to swallow in this day and age. ?
?
In an even more extreme case, lets look at the life of Vincent Van Gogh. ?During his lifetime his critics declared him a failure. ?In order to devote his life to painting, his brother paid for his living while his art never paid his bills. ?Many of us can't imagine a museum without his work in it, but he only sold one painting during his lifetime. ?This is a?very humbling thought and it goes to show you that success is not immediate.
?
?There's no question that there are more photographers now than ever before. ?The arts are flooded with creative people ready to become the next overnight success. ?The sheer amount of artists aspiring for the same jobs can be daunting. ?Photography icon, Mario Testino, when asked on Style.com if the ease of new technology has made the field too overcrowded, answered:
?"You look around and everybody wants to be a photographer, but everybody's still calling us. It's very difficult to take a good picture. The technique is almost the smallest part of it. The experience of art, how to get what you need out of people, how to work with a stylist?there are a lot of things that you have to do many times. It's really true that practice makes perfect". ?So how then do we stand out from the pack?
?
?So, lets say now we have been shooting regularly and have a full portfolio and we're ready to begin getting paying jobs...what next?! ?Teen Vogue's?photo editor, Jennifer Pastore offers this insight on how photographers can introduce their work to Teen Vogue,?"I spend a lot of time looking at magazines, gallery shows, student shows, reading blogs and looking at the portfolios that are sent in. Agents are also a great source of new talent, they often have a good sense of what will work well for the magazine. ?The best way for photographers to introduce their work is to send in their book or a link to their website." ??

?When asked the same questions, photo editor Ashley Macknica ( Jane Magazine, New York Magazine )?said, "?I do think trying to be featured on a well-curated, well-trafficked photo blog is a great supplementary way to get noticed". ?She stresses the importance of these photo blogs and mentioned that a lot of photo editors peruse them frequently. ?She also mentioned that editors are aware of the contest winners at?Pdnonline.com?? I got a lot out of this audio interview with Ashley: ?Here. ?Remember all of the tools at your disposal and use technology to your advantage. ?I've actually gotten a number of jobs recently solely through Instagram. ?Don't discount the value of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine) for photographers and artists. ?Anything that makes it easy for people to stumble upon your work is at least worth investigating.

A lot of young photographers think that having an agent is the ultimate means to an end, but getting an agent isn't always the answer. ?Deborah Shwartz, an agent at DSReps?said in an interview with aphotoeditor.com, "Now, it seems that people put a portfolio together, put together a promo and then start looking for a rep as if that is the next step in the process...Don?t put all of your energy into getting a rep. Put your energy into shooting and doing good work. ?Continue to hone your skills and to hone your vision. ?It?s about getting out there for yourself and shooting what you love because you love doing it. Have a strong vision and have something to say that people want to hear. Copying is just chasing trends and if you?re trying to do what everyone else is already doing you?ve missed it, because it?s already happened". ?

There are no shortcuts to true success. ?There isn't one prescribed path to the top. ?The majority of successful people spend countless amounts of time trying, failing and trying again. ?What's important is always thinking about the big picture, improving your craft, and working towards the long term goal. ?Patience, time and practice are crucial ingredients. ?And never forget to be an individual. ? ??

?I'll end with this proposal, that all of us forgo the idea of?striving to become an overnight success. ? Let's work hard with passion. ?Let's focus on the long term, setting individual goals and meeting them. ?And most importantly lets never give up! ?

Boy Scouts survey volunteers, workers on gay ban

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) ? The Boy Scouts of America is surveying its volunteers and employees across the U.S. on the question of allowing gays in Scouting.

The Scouts have publicly pledged to ban gays from the organization. But behind the scenes, the Scouts privately convened a committee to determine whether the ban should be modified or lifted.

The ban was reaffirmed last year. But that could change in May, when a resolution will be put forward to the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to decide whether to keep, modify or rescind the gay ban.

A survey emailed to 1.1 million adult Scouts poses five theoretical situations that could arise if the ban were lifted. Among them are a troop voting in a lesbian den leader, or a gay youth minister serving as Scoutmaster.

Respondents are asked to rate their feelings from strong support to strong opposition.

Should you take notes in meetings electronically? ? Business ...

note taking at meetingTaking notes during meetings is part of many business profes?sionals? normal routines. Those notes help them remember what was said and what action items came out of the meeting. For administrative professionals, those notes are not only for them, but for others who rely on the information.

How you take notes makes a big difference in today?s digital age. For some people, a computer will never replace a pen and paper for note-taking. However, for other admins, electronic notes may make more sense, especially if they have to share them electronically anyway. If you take notes on paper, you spend extra time typing them up before sending them out. But, if you are slower taking notes on a computer than on paper, a pad and pen may be the best option.

Here are three questions to determine which is best:

  1. Can you type fast enough to keep up with the meeting?
  2. Does the laptop or tablet cut you off from participating in the meeting?
  3. Are you comfortable with taking notes in a linear fashion?

If you decide to take notes electronically, here are some tips:

  • Come prepared with a preformatted note-taking document. With the formatting already in place, you will find it easier to keep up with and participate in the conversation. If your company has a standard format, begin with that.
  • Note-taking on an electronic device is mostly linear. You cannot naturally move up and down to add additional notes to something that was previously said. There are two solutions. Use a note-taking device that lets you scroll up and down easily. Or develop a note-taking method that allows you to reference previous notes in later ones.
  • Take notes based on who-what-when. Who said what when? This is perfect for noting action items as well. Using the same format for each note will make it easier to keep up with what is going on.
  • Use standard shorthand or create your own. Utilize abbreviations and acronyms you easily recognize. This makes note-taking faster, yet still provides notes you can read.
