Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.
Richardson, TX, January 15, 2013???Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, today announced it has won the 2012 Richardson Chamber of Commerce Environmental Award. The Chamber recognized Fujitsu for its innovative and effective sustainability initiatives applied to product design and business operations, and across the company?s entire supply chain.
Fujitsu Network Communications designs, develops and manufactures award-winning optical networking platforms. Fujitsu has over 500,000 network elements deployed by major North American carriers across the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. All Fujitsu networking products are designed to use less space in a customer environment, as well as to reduce electricity consumption, heating and cooling requirements, minimizing carbon footprint.
Like their counterparts in Product Design, Fujitsu?s Manufacturing and Operations are also committed to implementing environmentally-friendly solutions. For example, by switching to reusable, alternative packaging materials and significantly cutting-back on the use of cardboard and other product cushioning, the group saved more than 196 tons of materials, a reduction of more than 71 percent.
Fujitsu also made a positive impact on the environment by publishing customer technical documentation online, on CD and DVD. By moving away from printed materials, Fujitsu has saved 2.6 million pieces of paper annually. ?Fujitsu is setting a great example in the corporate world by promoting sustainability both in their supply chain and in the daily work of their staff,? said Bill Sproull, CEO, Richardson Chamber of Commerce. ?From the products they design and construct to paper use, everything is evaluated for its environmental impact. We are delighted to recognize the efforts of Fujitsu in this important aspect of corporate responsibility.?
?We?re very proud to receive this award and grateful to the Richardson Chamber of Commerce for their recognition,? said Jeff Meier, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Fujitsu Network Communications. ?Implementing a green strategy requires patience and persistence. We work at it every day and measure our success by how well we reduce environmental burden, as well as energy, material usage and production time.?
Fujitsu is the only major North American optical network equipment supplier with US-based manufacturing operations. The company?s Richardson headquarters has 1 million square feet of manufacturing and office space on more than 100 acres and has a workforce of 1,397 employees.
