Baubles, Accoutrements and Garb: Cake Lingerie Licorice Review

Pregnancy doesn't always make you feel so pretty, sexy or even special. Though the pregnant woman's body is truly beautiful, our emotions are a little out of sorts and it's easy to find yourself feeling quite frumpy.

I came across Cake Lingerie while searching for a maternity bra a couple of months ago. Out of all of the sites I scoured, I could find nothing else similar to Cake Lingerie. It is exquisite, detailed with beautiful lace, patterns and soft fabrics. The options are endless.

About Tracey

A creative arts teacher, I never dreamt of having my own business let alone creating one from my personal need.

I was 32 at the time, based in London and about to have my first child. Used to having nice things and wearing quality, fashionable clothing, my search began for maternity & nursing lingerie that was feminine, stylish, comfortable, functional and fit correctly. A non-event to say the least.. it did not exist!

The Idea

My existing bras and nightwear no longer fit and like most women, I wanted to buy some underwear, similar to what I was used to wearing before I was pregnant. Why did I have to compromise? I was young, glowing and pregnant and loving my curves..

I searched high and low, on the web, in the high street stores, called my friends in other countries. It became clearly evident that the product I was looking for was unavailable. It saddened me and made me more conscious about my body. Other women I spoke to had the same complaint.

Setting Up

I had no idea about the bra industry, but I did know there was a market for fashionable, comfortable but yet functional maternity bras. Having contacted and discussed the idea, with tons of women from all walks of life, I was convinced.

Learning about the product detail was key, which forced me to Fashion School. Whilst managing my home and young child, I spent every spare minute researching manufacturing options. Eighteen months & 7 manufacturers later I finally found one who was capable of meeting with my stringent product & quality expectation.

Satisfaction

I created Cake Lingerie to empower pregnant and breastfeeding women! To make women look and feel great during this extraordinary period in our lives. I?m inspired and energised with every piece of feedback you send me. This drives me further to innovate and bring immense joy to women around the world.

At Cake Lingerie we celebrate pregnancy and I will never allow compromise to the superiority and quality of our products. This is my promise to you.

I reached out to Cake and they offered to let me review a bra and panty of my choice! I'm so excited to share my findings with you. Cake Lingerie sent me my choice of "Licorice Bra and?Brief". My representative was very helpful in sizing and shipping information. She walked me through her suggestion for sizing which was different than my normal size, pre pregnancy. She instructed when to order a maternity bra during my pregnancy to make sure I get the right fit too.

The "Licorice Underwire Maternity Bra and Panty" set is absolutely stunning. Cake Lingerie describes it as: Enriched in black & gold weave and layered with a black lace overlay, this svelte soft cup, flexible wire bra delivers the ultimate in sexy you. Feel secure and confident in the luxurious fit of this glamorous, delectable offering.

I feel so beautiful and "Old Hollywood" in it. It has a lot of give via the stretch nature of the design in the bra. The straps are heavy duty and give me full support. While this is not the usual style of bra that I would have chosen normally, it works perfectly for pregnancy because our breasts change so much throughout this time. My size went up in both cup and dimension all around.

At first I worried before I received the bra that: 1. It wouldn't fit. 2: I wouldn't like the sheerness of a demi. Boy was I wrong on both accounts! I love the fit. It is adjustable in so many ways including the strap. There is plenty of room for adjustment. The cup is nice and stretchy and permits room for growth. The closure is wide and has several different notches for further adjustment as well. When it comes to the demi, surprisingly it is a hit! While it is thin/ sheer- there is still plenty of support. I get much hotter than I used to pre pregnancy and the light feel of this bra is comfortable and allows air circulation too.

Cake offers plenty of sizing options to suit most bodies. There are wireless and underwire styles offered for extra support. The site also has an Interactive Maternity Bra Guide, Size Calculator, and a handy Maternity Bra Book. These features will certainly help you to find the perfect fit.

If you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant or even just want to buy someone a lovely shower gift- Cake is highly recommended! I love my products and can't wait to order more and treat myself.
