Remember when getting high speed internet service meant you could use the internet all you wanted? Unfortunately, that's not a reality anymore for many of us. Many of the top Internet Service Providers are charging for bytes. Check out which ones here.
GigaOm's Stacey Higginbotham has rounded up the broadband cap details for the top ISPs in the US. Thankfully, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, Cablevision, Frontier, Windstream, Fairpoint, and Cincinnati Bell don't have any caps.
However, the others do. Depending on your plan, you could have a measly allowance (e.g., 30GB on Cox and then you're cut off) or a bigger cap if you're in a higher tier (e.g., up to 250GB on AT&T's Uverse, with $10 for 50GB more). Comcast has suspended its 300GB cap, but is testing an overage fee of $10 for 50GB. And Cable One's Economy plan really is stingy: just 1GB and $10 for every single gigabyte over.
