Damien Hobgood and Adriano de Souza claim victory in Round 3 at O?Neill Coldwater Classic

America?s Damien Hobgood and Brazil?s Adriano de Souza made the Round 4 cut at the O?Neill Coldwater Classic, the ninth of ten stops on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour, after claiming top honours in their respective Round 3 heats that went down at Santa Cruz in California, America, on Monday, November 5, 2012.

Damien got the better of his own brother CJ Hobgood during the 11th heat to earn his place in the fourth round, removing the latter from the competition in the process.

The 12th heat saw America?s Patrick Gudauskas bow out to De Souza after losing a thrilling contest, getting eliminated from the competition as a result while sending his rival through into the next round.

The elite ASP surfers continued to take each other on in testing conditions that were prevailing at the main point-break of Steamer Lane on the latest day of the competition.

Finding yourself pitted against your own brother in an elimination situation is not the greatest scenario, but both Damien and CJ knew that they had to stay professional and not let their sentiments get in the way.

Therefore, as the 11th heat got underway, both the surfers went hard at each other, clearly showing their intention to win at whatever cost.

Damien opened his account with a 6.83-point ride and went on to back it up with a 7.43-point ride, thus getting to a heat-total of 14.26 points.

CJ got off to a slower start and only managed to earn a 4.83 off his first business-wave. Despite getting hold of an impressive 7.73-point ride, he only managed to get to a heat-total of 12.56 points, 1.70 points short of the required score, consequently stepping aside to let his brother go through into the next round.

The last remaining spot in the fourth round had De Souza and Gudauskas battling over it during the 12th heat.

The American surfer got off to a solid start, earning an 8.23 off his first business-wave and went on to add an additional 7.00 points to his account in the final minutes of the heat, thus registering a heat-total of 15.23 points.

De Souza, however, managed to put on an even more exquisite performance, earning a couple of points in the eight-point range during the course of the battle to register a heat-total of 16.97 points, thus walking away with the win.
